Hopkins And Bening Join Hemingway And Fuentes
Anthony Hopkins and Annette Benning have been tapped to star with Andy Garcia in “Hemingway and Fuentes.” Garcia will be directing from a script that he wrote with Hilary Hemingway, granddaughter of the acclaimed writer Ernest Hemingway. The film will tell the tale of the twenty-odd years that Hemingway spent in Cuba with his best friend Gregorio Fuentes and fell in love with the woman who inspired him to write “The Old Man and the Sea.” Garcia will play Fuentes, and Bening will play the Hemingway’s third wife, Mary Welsh Hemingway. More Cedar Rapids Casting News
Sigourney Weaver, John C. Reilly and Alia Shawkat have been announced as joining Ed Helms and Anne Heche in the upcoming Fox Searchlight comedy “Cedar Rapids,” directed by Miguel Arteta. Written by Phil Johnston, the film is about a salesman (Helms) who goes to a regional convention in a last-ditch effort to save his and his coworkers’ jobs. Weaver, who next appears in James Cameron’s upcoming “Avatar”, is slotted to play Helms’s former 7th-grade teacher. Reilly’s and Shawkat’s roles have not been announced yet. Gerard Butler Joins Coriolanus
Gerard Butler, according to The Hollywood Reporter, has joined the cast of Ralph Fiennes’ directorial debut, an adaptation of the Shakespeare tragedy “Coriolanus.” He joins William Hurt, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Marsan, and Jessica Chastain. Butler has signed on to star opposite Fiennes in the Rome-set political and family drama about the rise and fall of a war hero turned political future. Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus” debuted in 1608 and is based on the life of Gaius Marcius Coriolanus, a legendary Roman general from the 5th century BC. Owen Wilson Voicing Marmaduke
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Owen Wilson has signed on to voice the rascally Great Dane “Marmaduke” for Fox’s adaptation of the long-running newspaper comic strip. The film will follow a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County, and their giant slobbering dog Marmaduke, who causes chaos wherever he goes. The strip was created in 1954 by Brad Anderson about a giant Great Dane dog and his misadventures causing trouble throughout the neighborhood. Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Keir Gilchrist Stars In Funny Story
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Keir Gilchrist has been cast as the lead in “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” from Focus Features and writer-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Gilchrist joins Zach Galifianakis, Emma Roberts, Viola Davis, Jim Gaffigan, Zoe Kravitz, Aasif Mandavi, and Lauren Graham. “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” is a coming-of-age comedy-drama adaptation of Ned Vizzini’s 2006 novel about a 16-year old who checks himself into a mental health clinic to deal with stress. Black Summer Getting Adaptation Treatment
According to a report by Variety, Vigilante Entertainment has picked up Warren Ellis’ comic book series “Black Summer” to produce a live-action adaptation of the Avatar Press comic book. Ryne Pearson (”Knowing”) is attached to write the screenplay for the project. Vigilante Entertainment is headed by Hicham Benkirane, who was formerly the head of audiovisual development at Les Munaoids Associes, the French comics publisher. Published in 2007, “Black Summer” is about the superhero/science adventureer team known as the Seven Guns, who end up modifying their bodies and powers for down-n-dirty street fighting in order to take back their city from corrupt government, law enforcement, and private security forces intent [...]
Helen Mirren Joins Red
ScreenDaily.com mentions that Helen Mirren has joined the cast of “Red” alongside Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. Her role has not been announced yet so far. An adaptation of the Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner comic book from Homage/Wildstorm Comics in 2003-2004, “Red” is about a former CIA hitman named Paul Moses (Willis) who is targeted by his former employers for liquidation. Informing his handler that he was going “red”, meaning active, he sets out for some answers and revenge. Screenrant is speculating that Mirren will play Moses’ handler. The film is slated to shoot in Toronto and Louisiana soon, and will be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian. [...]
Writer Attached To Pen Men In Black 3
Variety.com is reporting that screenwriter Etan Cohen (”Tropic Thunder”, “Idiocracy”) has been tapped by Columbia Pictures to pen the script for the upcoming “Men in Black 3″ film. There is no word yet about whether or not director Barry Sonnenfeld and stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones would return for the latest film about a secret agency composed of the mythical “Men In Black” who track and police extraterrestrial activity on Earth. Anthony Hopkins Joins Thor
Variety.com is reporting that renowned actor Anthony Hopkins has been cast as Odin, the All-Father Norse god, in “Thor” from Marvel Studios. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, production is starting on the adaptation of the Marvel Comics book about the Norse god of thunder this January. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as Thor and Loki, respectively, with Natalie Portman playing Thor’s love interest Jane Foster. Anne Heche Joins Cedar Rapids And The Other Guys
Anne Heche has signed on to not only play the female lead in “Cedar Rapids” from Fox Searchlight opposite Ed Helms, but also to join the cast of “The other Guys” for Columbia alongside Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg. “Cedar Rapids” is about insurance agent going to an insurance convention to save the jobs of his colleagues, and Heche will play a woman who befriends Helms’s character. In “Other Guys,” Heche will play a businesswoman who hires two police officers (Ferrell and Wahlberg) to look into mysterious going-ons in her company. Comingsoon.net is reporting that Brendan Gleeson, Don Cheadle, Mark Strong, Liam Cunningham, Pat Shortt, Fionnuala Flanagan, David Wilmot, Rory Keenan, and Katarina Cas have all been announced as starring in John Michael McDonagh’s “The Guard”, which has just started principal photography in the West of Ireland. Casting In Crave Announced
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Ron Perlman, Josh Lawson, and Emma Lung have been cast in the upcoming indie thriller “Crave.” The directorial debut of Charles de Lauzirika, who also wrote the script alongside Robert Lawton, the film is about a troubled photographer (Lawson) whose dangerous visions begin to destroy his relationship with a beautiful young woman (Lung), and end up getting him pursued by a dark and cynical detective (Perlman). Lauzirika is also producing “Crave” alongside with Robert Green, Scott Robinson and Marissa Neiman. The project will begin shooting this Friday in Detroit. Chi-Chian Getting Film Adaptation
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Framelight has obtained the rights to the cult comic book “Chi-Chian” and are planning a full-length feature film. A six-part comic series from Cuban-American musician Voltaire, the dark fairy tale-influenced “Chi-Chian” is set in a dystopian New York that is now under the control of Japan, and a seemingly normal young woman who inexplicably becomes a heroine that battles various threats such as the undead, robots, and samurai, in order to protect her loved ones. “Chi-Chian” has spawned a role-playing game as well as an online webseries for the SyFy Channel.
