The all-star cast has been shaping up for Baz Lurhmann’s 3D take on “The Great Gatsby,” and it would seem that the cast has gotten even more glitzy.
Amitabh Bachchan has been added to the cast, according to The Huffington Post. He will play gambler and troublemaker Meyer Wolfsheim. Saying Bachchan is a huge Bollywood star is an understatement. Bachchan, 70, has been in the acting business since the 1960s and is one of the most revered of Indian actors, and has garnered numerous Filmfare Award nominations and won 11 of his nominations., Also, in between his acting career in the 1980s, he was elected to public office. “Gatsby” will be his first Hollywood film.
It goes without saying that the addition of Bachchan will make the international appeal of “Gatsby” grow exponentially. I say it’s a good move, and now that there’s some insurance that international audiences could turn out in droves, the fact that the film is going to be in 3D doesn’t seem as much of a monetary risk now. Just my two cents.
What do you think about it? Do you feel that Bachchan will help lift the movie up from just a U.S. production to a production everyone all over the world will enjoy? Give your opinions in the comments section below.
