Popular social network Facebook has now moved into the foray of movie distribution. The network’s new movie distribution platform FlickLaunch will debut its first film, horror anthology “The Perfect House,” October 1. The film will then be available as a seven day rental on the film’s Facebook page.
The film stars Monique Parent, Felissa Rose, Will Robertson, Andrea Vahl, Chris Raab, Jonathan Tiersten and John Philbin and directed by Kris Hulbert and Randy Kent. Currently, the directors are on an American road tour to promote the film. You can watch their reality-style show on their Facebook page, and you can also pre-order the DVD by clicking here (the DVDs will be sent out in December).
FlickLaunch enables indie filmmakers to market to and access a worldwide audience through Facebook without the costs of traditional distribution. For a $5 “ticket price,” the full film will be viewed in full screen.
Using the “LIKE” button, a filmmaker can give away a set number of free views to movie viewers to promote the film or set the rental price to start making money immediately. Once the set number of “LIKES” are used up, movie viewers will use Paypal to rent movies at a price of $1-$5, depending on the film. Facebook Credits will be available soon, which can be used to rent movies instead of using Paypal.
“We see a great opportunity to help these filmmakers get their films seen by offering this powerful transactional VOD distribution platform,” said Craig Tanner, Co-founder and CEO of FlickLaunch. “Currently, many independent films are not lucky enough to secure distribution from a major distributor and rarely have a meaningful marketing budget to reach a mass audience. FlickLaunch provides an immediate solution to filmmakers for both of these issues.”
You can view the trailer for “The Perfect House” below the post. Here’s the official synopsis of “The Perfect House”:
“In ‘The Perfect House,’ newlyweds Mike and Mariso (Will Robertson and Andrea Vahl), are given the tour of their dream home by a perky real estate agent (Monique Parent) and they soon find out their perfect house might just have a foreboding past. The ugly horrors of this house are revealed through three original tales of terror detailing the grim circumstances of the previous occuupants. Done as an anthology, each short story in this homage to horror emulates the story and shooting styles of specific time periods in cinematic horror history.”
