With the box office success of the 2009 Liam Neeson action film ‘Taken,’ 20th Century Fox has announced it will release a sequel to the film on October 5, 2012. The studio has released the official synopsis to the follow-up, which will once again feature Neeson, ReelzChannel is reporting. The actor returns as retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, who takes a family vacation in Istanbul.
While there, the father of one of the kidnappers Bryan killed while trying to save his daughter Kim, who will once again be played by Maggie Grace in the sequel, in the first film swears revenge. So he takes Bryan and his wife hostage, and in an effort to be saved, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape. Bryan uses the same special forces tactics to get his family home safely and to take the kidnappers out one by one.
Rade Sherbedgia has reportedly been cast as Murad, the vengeful father of the kidnapper from the original ‘Taken.’ Famke Janssen, who portrayed Bryan’s ex-wife and Kim’s mother in the first movie, will reprise her role of Lennie in the sequel.
‘Taken’ writers Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson both returned to pen the script for the follow-up. ‘Transporter 3’ director Oliver Megaton will helm the film, which is expected to begin filming later this month in Turkey and France.
