Actor Rhys Ifans of both ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ fame has been cast in the Showtime comedy pilot ‘Trending Down’. Ifans will co-star opposite Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master) and actress Kathryn Hahn (Crossing Jordan). The pilot will follow Hoffman as Thom Payne, an unlucky guy who has his advertising business taken over after being deemed obsolete. Ifan is set to play his boss, Jonathan Clow. Hahn has been tapped to play Hoffman’s on screen wife. The project has been described as “a blistering attack on our youth-obsessed culture.” Additional details surrounding the pilot or a description of Ifans’ character has not yet been disclosed. ‘Trending Down’ comes from writer and executive producer Shalom Auslander. The project was developed by Ken Kwapis who will also serve as an executive producer on the Showtime pilot. John Cameron Mitchell is set to direct.
At the moment Ifans is filming on the 2014 release ‘Squirrels to the Nuts’ opposite Jennifer Aniston (We’re The Millers), Olivia Wilde (Tron) and Lucy Punch (Bad Teacher). Ifans is also attached to ‘Panda Eyes’ with director Isabel Coixet, ‘Serena’ with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence of ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and the film ‘Madame Bovary’.
