Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Connelly have been cast by Lakeshore Entertainment to join Ewan McGregor in the upcoming Philip Roth-directed adaptation, ‘American Pastoral.’ Connelly will play Dawn, the wife of McGregor’s character, Swede Levov, while Fanning will portray their daughter, Merry Levov.
“The role of Merry is an extremely complex part, and I believe that (Dakota) Fanning will break our hearts with her performance,” said Lakeshore President, Gary Lucchesi.
“(Jennifer) Connelly is one of the great actresses of our time,” stated Lakeshore CEO, Tom Rosenberg. “We always wanted her to play Dawn in ‘American Pastoral,’ and we’re thrilled to be working with her.”
John Romano, who previously adapted Michael Connelly’s acclaimed crime drama thriller, ‘The Lincoln Lawyer,’ also wrote the script for ‘American Pastoral.’ The film is scheduled to being shooting in March 2015 in Pittsburgh.
‘American Pastorla’ follows Seymour “Swede” Levov, a legendary high school athlete, who grows up to marry a former beauty queen and inherits his father’s business. Swede’s seemingly perfect life shatters when his daughter rebels by becoming a revolutionary and commits a deadly act of political terrorism during the Vietnam War.
