Tom Cruise is unleashing a new version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization, as the first glimpse into his anticipated action-adventure film, ‘The Mummy,’ has been revealed. Universal Pictures, which will distribute the drama into theaters on June 9, 2017, has just unveiled the teaser trailer and a new poster for the reboot. The teaser clip serves as a precursor to the full length trailer, which will debut this Sunday, December 4.
In addition to Cruise, ‘The Mummy’ also stars Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe. The new action-adventure rebot was written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie. The fantasy movie was directed by ‘People Like Us’ helmer, Alex Kurtzman. The director also produced the latest entry in the franchise alongside Chris Morgan.
The two are known for being instrumental in developing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years. Kurtzman has written or produced entries in the ‘Transformers,’ ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Mission: Impossible’ series. Morgan has penned every script in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise since it’s third installment, 2006’s ‘The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.’ Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent ‘Mummy’ trilogy, also served as a producer on the upcoming version.
Universal Pictures has released the following description for ‘The Mummy’:
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess, Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day. She brings with her malevolence that grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, ‘The Mummy’ brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
