Young Guns is the story of William H. Bonney, or as he is better known Billy The Kid, and his time with one Mr. John Tunstall and the Regulators. The Regulators consist of five young men that Tunstall has taken under his wing and taken in out of trouble trying to bring culture and some form of civilized act to these young men. Look upon as a father figure the young men work the Tunstall ranch in return for their education and room and board. It’s not until Tunstall is murdered, by Lawrence Murphy’s men, an evil land snatching money man, it’s before their very eyes that things take a turn for the worse, or better depending on whose side your fighting on in the Lincoln County War. To afraid to try and bring Murphy to justice the local Sheriff is persuaded into making the Regulators the newest deputies of Lincoln County, with the job of serving 11 warrants and arresting all those whose names are attached to them. It is this that leads the Regulators to avenge the death of their mentor, and the battles and killings that made Billy the Kid the infamous outlaw that he is today.
This movie was filmed very well; the action sequences are spectacular with gunfights and fistfights. Christopher Cain carries his gritty realistic feel to the film as he has in his previous works. Writing a magnificent screenplay John Fusco has got a well touch on historical facts and spicing up history for, at it’s time, a modern day western of the 80’s. With a young and coming cast Young Guns was sure to succeed. Staring Emilio Estevez as Billy the Kid, along side his brother Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko rounding out the rest of the Regulators’ crew. With a stunning supporting cast with Terence Stamp as John Tunstall, Terry O’Quinn as the reluctant Lawyer Alex, and Jack Palance as the evil Mr. Murphy. Young Guns is a bulls eye shot, not to be missed, so if you haven’t seen this movie put it at the top of your list.
