CNN and Seattlepi both report today that Time Warner and Wal-Mart plan to offer the option to purchase a downloadable version of SUPERMAN RETURNS to Wal-Mart customers for an additional cost. Customers who purchase the SUPERMAN RETURNS DVD will be able to purchase SUPERMAN RETURNS for their I-Pod ($1.97) or Laptop ($2.97). Eventually, Time Warner plans to sell digital copies at kiosks in all Wal-Mart stores.
Kevin Swint, Wal-Mart’s divisional merchandise manager says, “This unique Superman Returns physical/digital DVD combination not only marks our first step into the video downloads market, but gives our customers the best of both worlds in movie entertainment.”
Next year, Time Warner plans to offer their films over the internet for customers to purchase and burn directly to DVD. Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons said, “I expect we will be in a download-to-burn mode in 2007 — It will be a part of next year’s offerings.”
