Variety reported Thursday that Blockbuster is in advanced talks to acquire Movielink.com which is a studio owned online movie download website. Movielink.com was launched in 2002 by NBC Universal, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and MGM, but never really took off; partially due to stiff competition such as Apple’s iTunes (90% market share). Blockbuster intends to purchase the company at the $50 million dollar price tag plus stock and offer their customers “triple play” rentals in its store, online and by mail.
