Vincent Guastini Productions is a special make-up FX studio based near Burbank , California. They are known for their work on such films among others as: â€Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of Our Father, Requiem for Dream, Scary Movie 4, Dogma, Last of the Mohicans’s, Stephen King’s Thinner, and, Saturday Night Live, they are proud to announce the release of “Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horrorâ€
The Idea for “Hood of Horror†all started with what was just a very cool idea of Producer/Writer, Tim Sullivan, of a sort of Urban “Tales from the Crypt’/“Creepshow†styled horror movie that would star and be narrated by Snoop Dogg. Tim took this idea starting with a script and poster designed by Artist/Writer Jacob Hair.
With “Hood of Horror†now officially in the works, Vincent Guastini was contacted and hired to do all of the films Special Make-Up Effects.
“I met with Director, Stacy Title. We sat down and looked over the list of effects, brainstorming on how each effect was to come off and be achieved.
That list looking something like this: Guy gets 40 shoved through head – Girl gets turned into spray can – Women gets force fed Caviar till stomach explodes – Rapping Demon Midget that throws up (List goes on…)
Throw in some zombies and an exploding “Taco Bell†dog, and I thought…
I’m never going to work in this town again. How in the world is that going to work without looking stupid?
To put it simply. I was worried.
We ended up using almost every FX trick in the book. We had all kinds of animatronic silicone puppets of the actors that looked pretty damn real. I was on set everyday of this show. I was supervising and applying make-ups by day and getting major effect gags ready with my crew, by night.
There were a lot of late hours and lot of hard work but, the cool thing is even having the chance to make all of these ridiculous, over the top ideas come to life and seem real without the use of CGI.
We really put our heart into every effect that came out of this Studio. I am proud and confident when I say, no matter what the budget may be, or how busy the shop may get, I try to never let anything leave here unless I consider it our best.
I really loved working with Stacy Title. She was such an awesome Director to work with. She is such an open, honest, laid back person. You always know what’s on her mind. She really kept the set fun. The Producers: Jonathan McHugh, Martin Shore, and, Chris Tuffin, were always there for me, helping make my job go as smooth as it possibly could.
Bloodworks and Social Capital are great companies and I loved working with those guys. They trusted me, and made me feel great for having every effect delivered on time and working. When Stacy, the Producers, and I, would sit down we would really come together as a team when setting the tone for the films effects.
As far as working with Snoop, what a blast! He is such a cool guy.
Applying his make-up in his trailer was like being at a party. I really had fun turning him into a Demon. He has such a great expressive face that all it really took was a few “evil enhancing†prosthetics, to bring him up to character. He really brought the make-up to life.
I really like this movie to, it’s just plain fun, and guess what?!
Most of my effects are real in camera, not CGI.
How about that?!
