The hit action film “The Dark Knight” starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger continues to win big box office sales. Now, an authentic Batmobile from Batman Returns will be auctioned at the 38th Annual Kruse International Auction in Auburn, Indiana over Labor Day weekend.

The prop vehicle from Tim Burton’s 1992 Batman movie is being auctioned off to try to bring in a bigger crowd to this year’s sale, which is expected to draw over 175,000 people according to a Kruse representative.

The representative states that this will be the largest Auburn Fall Collector Car Auction in the history of Kruse.”

Similar but less valuable Batmobiles have gone for as much as $550,000 at auctions in the vein of Kruse’s, according to the auction house. The Warner Bros. and DC Comics sales team states in its approval agreement that the Batmobile being sold is one of five Batmobiles used in the actual movie.

With the recent success of The Dark Knight, Batman’s popularity has shot through the roof and will only help the auction. The Dark Knight, released theatrically in July 2008, stars Christian Bale as Batman, Heath Ledger as The Joker and Aaron Eckart as Harvey Dent/Two Face.

Burton’s 1992 Batman sequel, Batman Returns, stars Michael Keaton as Batman, Danny DeVito as Penguin, Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman and Christopher Walken as Max Shreck.
