Filmjunk.com recently reported that the upcoming film “Dragonball” by director James Wong (Final Destination 3) and starring Justin Chatwin (S. Darko), Ernie Hudson (Ghost Busters) and Yun-Fat Chow (The Red Circle) may be canceled.

“This week we received word from an anonymous source that there may be some truth to this speculation after all. According to our tipster, the higher-ups at Fox are not too impressed the footage that has been shot thus far, and are seriously debating shutting the whole thing down.” reports Film Junk.

Based on the fact that Fox has already spent the production budget, the recent media buzz and overall popularity of the animated series, a cancellation this late into the game is highly unlikely. Dragonball will be in theaters on April 10, 2009.

  2. ALTHOUGH i am a huge fan of shaoilin soccer and kung fu hustle, the fact of the matter is the special effects for those movies were good because those movies were COMEDIES! the sfx didnt have to be the best, just good enough to keep the story moving along and to have the viewer realize, ok, so its no realistic but it works. HOWEVER, with a rich history that DBZ has, and the giant worldwide fanbase, you cant use those same kind of SFX to push an ACTION MOVIE along. Especially with the fantastic sfx that batman and ironman brought to the theatres. This movie will unfortunately BOMB. Not that i’d like it to, i was super excited when i originally heard they were making it. But once they started casting it, you could slowly see how they are fucking everything up. It will look like shit… and everything ive read says it does look like shit, and it will barely make a mark in theatres…. especially with ironman 2 in the works, not to mention a shit load of other marvel movies on the way. Too bad. DBZ will have to live on through DVDs, not through LIVE ACTION…. until someone from the US takes it over….. Fox sure knows how to fuck things up….
