With the success of Marvel Enterprise’s Iron Man movie and the abounding rumors of upcoming Captain America and Avengers movies, Mark Millar, is talking about his upcoming work at Marvel and how much of an influence the Ultimate line, where classic Marvel titles and characters are given modern revamps, is having on upcoming Marvel Enterprise film projects. In an interview with Newsarama, Millar, the creator of both Wanted and Kick-Ass, said “I’d say the biggest success I’ve had, the one thing I feel very confident doing, is a new spin on the old characters. […] all these guys worked out really well in Ultimates, so much so that Marvel Studios are using them as the basis of the movie characters… and I’d like to extend that a little.”
The Ultimates line has already begun to seep from the page onto the big and small screen with Marvel’s direct-to-DVD animated movies Ultimate Avengers and Ultimate Avengers 2. Released through Lions Gate Entertainment, Ultimate Avengers came out February 21st, 2006 and its sequel came out August 8th 2006. The characters and stories drew loosely on the Ultimate line for inspiration. Zak Penn is scheduled to write the upcoming Avengers movie from Marvel, tentatively slated for release sometime in 2011.
