Miramax’s latest film, Blindness, co-starring Mark Ruffalo and Julianne Moore, is now opening nationwide October 3rd, 2008. It was previously announced that the release date would be September 26th.
Based on a 1995 novel by Jose Saramago, Blindness follows citizens of an epidemic-ridden city. Those who are first struck by the “white blindness” are quarantined by police and sent to an abandoned mental hospital. The band of sick find themselves a target to others, often times being abused and targeted for crime. They find hope in one unafflicted woman, the wife of a doctor, who follows him into the ward only to help them escape and return to everyday life.
The film has already received great reviews:
“Finally, a great little film…I love it when a film comes out of nowhere, from an unlikely source, a new talent, old talents re-discovering their gifts, or something that just plains shocks the hell out of the audience with its audacity and brilliance.” – InContention.Com
“The film received a fairly prolonged standing ovation at last night’s screening.” – Cinematical.com
