Comic book writer Rob Vendetti, the mind behind the graphic novel “The Surrogates” which is being made into a major motion picture, recently sat down with MTV’s Splash Page to chat about among other things, his comic, the upcoming movie, and casting choices.
Rob tells MTV that when originally writing the comic, about a future where over 90% of humanity interact with the outside world through robotic remote-controlled avatars of themselves called “surrogates”, he dreamed about a film adaptation and even fantasized about the star. He says he and wife thought that of all the actors they could think of, Bruce Willis could accurately fill the role of the film’s protagonist Greer, a police detective who must venture outside on his own when a rash of murders begins to occur.
And now in post-production, a big-screen version of the Top Shelf Productions comic is coming to you in the fall of next year, from Touchstone Pictures and directed by Jonathan Mostow, with a release date set at November 20th 2009. Touchstone has also pre-optioned any further film installments related to “The Surrogates”, which gives us the possibility of maybe even seeing the second volume of the comic “Flesh and Bone” on screens as well in the future. Vendetti says that he has plans for more in the Surrogates world and after a visit to the set of the film, he tells MTV that he’s excited about the upcoming movie and seeing his dream come to life.
