FirstShowing.net has some exclusive news on the progress of the upcoming live-action Green Lantern movie, one of the latest DC Comics titles to get the big screen treatment. They caught up with producer Donald De Line, who is developing the project, and he said that they’re “gearing up to start shooting early spring” and that “it’s coming together and I’m excited about it.”
On the heels of the recently released conceptual artwork for the film and LatinoReview.com’s recent review of the latest draft of the script, hopes are high for the 2010 release of the film detailing the exploits and origins of the Green Lantern. Following the success of the revamped Batman franchise directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, DC is most likely hoping to continue their success and compete with the amount of titles getting the film greenlight from Marvel Comics, which scored big this summer with “Iron Man”, starring Robert Downey, Jr.
Set to be directed by Greg Berlanti, the Green Lantern is an intergalactic police officer and member of the Green Lantern Corps, fighting evil and injustice with a powerful weapon known as a Power Ring that can create solid green-light versions of anything the Lantern needs, powered by fearlessness and willpower. The first Green Lantern appeared in 1940, though the most popular incarnation of the character, Hal Jordan, who will be the protagonist of the movie and was the first of the “space cop” version of the Green Lanterns, first appeared in 1959.
