British actor Simon Pegg has signed a $1 million ($1.8 million U.S.) deal with publishers Hodder + Stoughton to write an autobiography plus two more books.
A spokesman for the publishing house says, “Pegg writes for us but somehow the films appeal to America too. He is our biggest export. I don’t think there is any British actor of his ilk who has been so successful.”
Pegg recently starred in a memoir adaption of British journalist Toby Young’s life, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, which opened October 3rd in the U.S. Although it made $1.4 million in the U.S. box office, not breaking into the top ten for its opening weekend, How to Lose Friends & Alienate People hit the number one spot on Britain’s box office charts.
The actor is set to write a non-fiction book for fall publication every year over the next three years.
The first book will be Pegg’s untitled autobiography, tracing his career from his first ever stand-up gig, through his time in cult hit sitcom “Spaced,” right up to being cast as Scotty in the new Star Trek film.
The second, due out in 2010, will be a lower-cost “quirky humor” hardback aimed at the Christmas gift market, while the third will be a “highly illustrated, lavishly produced” title, according to the Daily Express.
