Marvel Comics’ smash hit “Runaways” is apparently being eyed by Marvel Studios, the movie branch of the comic book publishers behind this summer’s smash hits “Iron Man” and “The Incredible Hulk”.
Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige said, when asked recently by MTV News “I love the idea. Brian brought to Marvel one of the best new concepts that we’ve had in quite some time, […] It’s very different than anything we’ve done before.” He expects to be looking at a finished script by early 2009.
Feige compares the title and future possible film as being in the same film vein as “Goonies”, the iconic 1985 teen adventure movie starring a young Sean Astin and Josh Brolin that has become a cult classic, and indicates that after the anticipated “Avengers” movie, tentatively scheduled for 2011, that Marvel Studios would be tackling the adventures of The Runaways.
Originally launched in 2002 and created by reknowned comic writer Brian K Vaughn, “Runaways” is about a group of teenagers from LA who discover that their parents are in fact a group of supervillains known as The Pride and run away from home, becoming an impromptu group of sorts of teenage heroes, fighting against their parents as well as a growing array of other villains while dealing with being on their own.
