British actor and Twilight star Robert Pattinson said he would be open to taking over the lead role in “Doctor Who” once David Tennant departs it in 2010.

There’s already a ton of speculation about who the next Doctor Who will be. So far, most of the rumors have been centered on Paterson Joseph, an actor who has previously worked with Steven Moffat, the new head writer for “Doctor Who”. No permanent decision has been reached yet.

“The Doctor is great,” Pattinson said. “I did grow up watching it. I loved it when I was a kid. In fact, I met one of them the other day, Sylvester McCoy [the seventh Doctor]. He’s one of the few people I’ve asked for an autograph.”

Pattinson, who is known for his role as Cedric in the Harry Potter series, has his first huge lead role in the upcoming film, Twilight. The novel-to-film adaptation, focusing around the romantic relationship between a 17-year-old girl and a vampire, opens this upcoming Friday, November 21st.
