DC, Warner Bros, and Newsarama released a press release about the upcoming animated “Wonder Woman” movie, starring the voices of Keri Russell (“Waitress”, “Felicity”), Natan Fillion (“Serenity”), Virginia Madsen (“Sideways”), Alfred Molina (“Spider-Man 2”), and more.
Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation will be available March 3, 2009, distributed by Warner Home Video. It will be available as a Single Disc , a 2 Disc Special Edition DVD, and on Blu-ray Disc as well. The animated original movie will also be available OnDemand and Pay-Per-View as well as available for download online that same day.
Produced by the Emmy Award winning animation legend Bruce Timm (“Batman: The Animated Series”, “Justice League”, “Justice League Unlimited”),”Wonder Woman” tells the tale of Princess Diana of Themyscira, land of the warrior women known as the Amazons. An Amazon warrior gifted with powers from the Greek Gods, she is blessed with strength, speed, grace, and beauty. When the Air Force pilot Steve Trevor crash lands on the island, Diana defies the law of the Amazons by accompanying Trevor back to civilization. Meanwhile, the God of War Ares escapes from an eternal Amazonian prison and decides to enact his revenge thought a global war that will destroy everything and everyone, if the daughter of Themyscira, Wonder Woman, doesn’t stop him.
Wonder Woman is a DC Comics superheroine created by William Moulton Marston. First appearing in 1941 in All Star Comics #8, she is one of three characters to have been continuously published by DC Comics since the company’s 1944 inception save for a brief 1984 hiatus, the other two being Superman and Batman, with the three generally being considered DC’s flagship characters.
An Amazon warrior clad in red, white, blue, and gold armor and wielding a magical lasso, Wonder Woman currently stars in her own solo series penned by the acclaimed writer Gail Simone, as well as appearing in several other titles periodically, including “Justice League Of America”. She has appeared in animation numerous times before, including on Timm’s acclaimed “Justice League” and “Justice League Unlimited” animated series. A live-action “Wonder Woman movie is also currently in pre-production.
