Warner Bros. is confirming that “The Dark Knight” will be returning to theaters and IMAX January 23rd, after contradictory reports about when if ever the blockbuster superhero movie would get a theatrical re-release.
Warner Bros. President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman said in the press release announcing the re-release that “‘The Dark Knight’ is a crowning achievement in every sense of the word. We wanted to provide one more opportunity for moviegoers to experience it on the big screen as it was meant to be seen.”
“The Dark Knight” hit theaters in July of 2008 and has gone on to gross more than $500 million, only the second American film to ever reach that level. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Aaron Eckhart, it is the sequel to 2005’s “Batman Begins”.
Batman’s crusade in Gotham against crime is taking its toll on the mob, who agree to let in the mysterious and dangerous Joker to help take care of Batman. At the same time, Bruce Wayne begins to question how far he must go to continue as Batman while at the same time helping Rachel Dawes and her boss, the new District Attorney Harvey Dent, when an encounter with the mob disfigures Dent into the crazy Two-Face.
“The Dark Knight” hits store shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray December 9th in the US, with standard and Special Editions for both formats.
