There are rumors of a return to the “Blade” franchise, an adaptation of the Marvel Comics character, which has grossed over $400 million worldwide starring Wesley Snipes as the half-vampire hunter of the undead, according to a report from Shock Till Ya Drop.com.

David S. Goyer, the writer of the “Blade” film franchise and director of “Blade Trinity”, recently said, in response to whether or not he’d return to the sword-wielding vampire hunter; “God, it feels like they remake movies five years after they come out now, […] I’m sure New Line at some point would like to do another version of it. Me? Never say never, but I think remakes are more successful the more time there is in between. Honestly, I think they should have waited for the new Hulk. I like the new one. But the longer time you have between remakes [and their originals], the better. For me, ten years is the minimum you really need.” Goyer also says “I heard rumors that they may want to start from scratch with a new person playing Blade. It’s funny because I thought about how I never wanted to do a vampire film ever again because I’m sick of it. But I was reading the ‘Tomb of Dracula’ Omnibus and I hadn’t read them in a long time and I thought it might be cool to do another vampire movie at some point.”

Blade first appeared in 1973 in Marvel’s “Tomb of Dracula” comic and made steady appearances in various Marvel titles, as well as several of his own. A vampire hunter, Blade’s mother was bitten by one when he was not yet born, giving him a level of supernatural abilities including immunity to the bite of vampires, and later on, enhanced physical prowess, slowed aging, and the power to sense supernatural beings around him. The character gained a new level of recognition in 1998 with the release of “Blade” starring Wesley Snipes, who went on to star in two sequels. There was also a TV series starring Kirk Jones that premiered in 2006 on Spike TV, which lasted for a season to positive reviews.
