Director Danny Boyle, production company Rebellion, and the British magazine “2000 AD” have announced that a new Judge Dredd movie is in development, based on the popular comic character.
Together with DNA Films, they plan to bring back the infamous supercop of the future to the big screen, in a new production with no ties to the previous Hollywood attempt. Jason Kingsley, CEO/Creative Director says of the project;
“We can’t give away too many details at this point, but we’re looking forward to working with DNA Films to bring Judge Dredd back to the big screen.”
Judge Joe Dredd is a character whose strip in the British sci-fi comic anthology “2000 AD” is the magazine’s longest running, having been running since the magazine’s second issue in 1977. Dredd, arguably one of Britain’s best-known comic book characters, is a law enforcement officer in a violent futuristic mega-city where uniformed combatants called “Judges” combine the power of police, judge, jury and executioner to enforce the law.
Created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, with some input by editor Pat Mills, Dredd has previously been adapted for live-action in the 1995 film “Judge Dredd” starring Sylvester Stallone as the title character, as well as Diane Lane, Armand Assante, and Max Von Sydow.
