Universal’s adaptation of the Oni Press graphic novel series “Scott Pilgrim”, which will be called “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World” and is being directed by Edgar Wright, has announced a slew of casting updates for the film including Brandon Routh, Chris Evans, and Brie Larson.
“Pilgrim”, based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s comic which began in 2004, centers on young slacker Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), who meets the woman of his dreams (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). However, Scott finds he can win her heart and date her only by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends in hand-to-hand kung-fu combat. The title has received rave critical and fan reviews for its mix of romance, comedy, geek/slacker culture, and comedic martial arts sequences.
Larson plays Envy Adams, Scott’s ex for whom he still has feelings. Evans plays evil boyfriend Lucas Lee, a pro skater turned film star, Routh the third evil boyfriend Todd Ingram, a rock ‘n roll star with “vegan psychic powers”, Satya Bhabha as the ex-boyfriend who can magically summon demon hipster girls, and Mae Whitman as the fourth ex Roxy Richter, a female half-ninja.
Also on the cast are Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Scott Pilgrim’s current girlfriend when he meets his dream girl, Anna Kendrick as Scott’s sister, Mark Webber as a member of Pilgrim’s rock band, Alison Pill as the band’s drummer and Johnny Simmons is Young Neil, the band’s biggest fan. Aubrey Plaza plays Webber’s on-again off-again girlfriend.
There is no release date yet, but filming is set to start this March.
