Actress Dakota Fanning has been offered the role of a bloodsucker in the Twilight sequel, New Moon, according to various reports.

Fanning is currently in talks to play an Italian vampire opposite Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson.
The role up for grabs is that of Jane, who is described in a casting call as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face… [and] crimson irises.” The character is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of vampires in author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.

Eonline.com blogger Marc Malkin talks about how she became involved with New Moon, saying, “There were no auditions. They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations.”

Twilight fans recently started an online petition in hopes to grab the producers’ attention in which people sign to have Fanning as Jane because she would be “perfect” for the role.

Recent rumors surrounded another teen actor, Vanessa Hudgens of the famous High School Musical series, saying that she too had auditioned and was in talks to co-star in New Moon. Her representatives as well as the film’s backers have confirmed this is merely a rumor.

Filming on New Moon is scheduled to begin in Italy this spring.
