IESB is reporting that an inside source from the film “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” says that extra shooting in Vancouver, British Columbia recently was to add more screen time for Ryan Reynolds character of Deadpool alongside Hugh Jackman.
Internet hype for the movie, which will detail the mysterious origins of the long-lived mutant with the healing factor and killer metal-laced claws and skeleton, has been building ever since the inclusion of Reynolds to the cast as a military teammate of Logan in his earlier days, Wade Wilson, aka “Deadpool”. There has been speculation of a spinoff of the “Origins” film featuring Reynolds as Deadpool.
Deadpool, knicknamed “The Merc with a Mouth” for his wise-cracking antics and tendency to break the 4th wall in his comic appearances, was created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, first appearing in 1991 in the pages of Marvel’s “The New Mutants”. Deadpool is portrayed as a high-tech weapons-toting mercenary and assassin known for his offensive humor and satirical pop-culture references. Like the X-Men’s Wolverine, Deadpool is also portrayed as having a superhuman “healing factor”, which he was artificially endowed with by the same program that gave Wolverine his metal skeleton. Bonding with his incurable cancer, Deadpool was disfigured and driven insane.
The character has become a cult hit since then, with appearances in various other titles, his own solo title in 1997, and starring in other series such as appearances in “Agency X” and “Cable & Deadpool”. September 2008 saw the relaunch of his solo title in the aftermath of Marvel’s summer crossover event “Secret Invasion”, featuring the character fighting shapeshifting invaders from space, the Skrulls.
“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” will hit theaters May 1st, 2009.
