Variety.com is reporting that Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman have signed on to star in “The Baster”, a fertility-themed comedy for Mandate Pictures.
“The Baster” centers on Bateman’s character, an insecure man who finds out his best female friend, played by Aniston, is having a child through artificial insemination. He then swaps his own semen in place of the donor’s, and must live with the fact that his best friend’s child is secretly his.
Will Speck and Josh Gordon, who previously were behind the ice-skating comedy “Blades of Glory” will be working on “The Baster” based on a screenplay by Allan Loeb. The film is based on short story “Baster” by Jeffrey Eugenides, and was first published in The New Yorker.
Nathan Kahane from Mandate Pictures is the executive producer for the film alongside Aniston and her Echo Films partner Kristen Hahn, with Bona Fide Prods.’ Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa, producing.
“The Baster” will begin shooting this spring.
