Variety.com is breaking the story of Warner Bros. courting Jeffrey Dean Morgan to star in their big-screen adaptation of the DC/Vertigo title “The Losers”. Morgan is slated to appear as The Comedian in the upcoming “Watchmen” movie, the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the famous Alan Moore and David Gibbons graphic novel in theaters March 6th.
The Losers, written by Andy Diggle and drawn by Jock between 2003 and 2006, takes place in world focusing on intelligence, black ops, and the US “War On Terror”. They are a Special Forces team lent to the C.I.A. in the 1990’s and were betrayed and left for dead by their handler, a mysterious man with connections to the US intelligence agencies and government named Max. Surviving and regrouping, the Losers begin a covert war against the CIA and Max to discover the truth about Max, their last mission, and his evil plan. The title is actually loosely based on a DC comic title that debuted in 1970 about a ragtag group of World War II soldiers with tragic pasts, conducting covert missions behind enemy lines.
The project is financed by Dark Castle Entertainment and James Vanderbilt and Joel Silver are writing the script, with Akiva Goldsman and Kerry Foster producing, and Sylvain White directing.
No release or filming date has been announced yet.
