According to entertainment blog The Playlist, Jon Favreau commented to E! last night in a post-Oscars interview that Emily Blunt, rumored to be attached to the upcoming “Iron Man 2”, will not be in the film.

The source says that according to Favreau in the interview, Fox studios exercised its option on her for “Gulliver’s Travels”, making her unavailable to appear in the sequel to the 2008 superhero movie from Marvel about the billionaire genius Tony Stark, who dons a suit of high-tech red and gold armor after a near-fatal accident and becomes the hero known as Iron Man. Blunt had been rumored to be in the running to portray the Russian secret agent known as the Black Widow, who eventually defects to the US, becomes an Avenger, and even for a while one, of Iron Man’s love interests.

Meanwhile, Favreau also stated that while not officially attached, Oscar nominee and star of “The Wrestler” MIckey Rourke is “a fan”. “Iron Man” star Robert Downey Jr also mentioned that the production was lobbying hard to get Rourke in the film, which he has been rumored to be attached to in several possible roles, including the former Soviet Iron Man counterpart, the mechanized Crimson Dynamo.

“Iron Man 2” is scheduled to hit theaters in 2010.
