Variety says that studios trying to fill 2010 release slates have been given two very good options: an Adam McKay-directed action comedy starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, or a drama starring Matt Damon that will have him working alongside his Bourne Ultimatum screenwriter George Nolfi.
The Damon picture, The Adjustment Bureau, is a contemporary science fiction romance film that is loosely based on a Phillip K. Dick short story. Nolfi will be making his directing debut with Bureau, which will begin production by late summer.
Nolfi, who most recently worked with Damon on The Bourne Ultimatum, also wrote 2004’s Oceans Twelve, in which Damon also starred. He also wrote The Sentinel and is currently working on the script for the next Bourne installment.
In a completely unrelated event, studios were recently bidding on B Team, the McKay-directed cop comedy with Ferrell and Wahlberg. Chris Henchy, who co-wrote the upcoming Ferrell film Land of the Lost, penned the script.
McKay and Farrell have worked together several times, most recently on Step Brothers. The pair have also seen box office success with their movies Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby and the infamous sketch “The Landlord.”
Henchy, however, has more background in television than film, serving as executive producer for HBO’s “Entourage” as well as “Spin City” and short-lived series “Life with Bonnie.”
