Entertainment Weekly has the rounded-out cast of the upcoming “Stargate” series coming to the Sci-Fi Channel, titled “Stargate Universe”, which started production last week in Vancouver. The latest installment in the science fiction franchise, “Stargate Universe” follows a group of survivors stranded on an ship called the Destiny, created by the alien race called the Ancients that accidentally ends up stranded in the farthest reaches of space and must find their way back to Earth.
Ming-Na (“ER”) and Elyse Levesque (“Smallville”) have come aboard for “Stargate Universe”, joining the previously announced recruits Robert Carlyle, Alaina Huffman, Lou Diamond Phillips, Justin Louis, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith.
Ming-Na will play Camille Wray, an HR bigwig and the highest-ranking survivor among those on the runaway shit. Levesque stars as Chloe Armstrong, the immature daughter of a U.S. Senator. Lou Diamond Phillips has been cast as Colonel Telford, and Alaina Huffman, also from “Smallville”, will be playing Tamara Johansen, a field medic.
The series is set to debut on Sci-Fi in October 2009 as either a TV movie or miniseries to introduce people to the universe and story. “Universe” will be the followup to the highly popular “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate Atlantis” series on Sci-Fi, about adventurers using an ancient network or portal-like devices called Stargates to explore the universe and defend Earth from various alien threats.
