Latino Review is stating that an anonymous source has Hollywood executives looking at Anton Yelchin, who will be appearing as Kyle Reese in the upcoming movie “Terminator: Salvation” starring Christian Bale and directed by McG, to star as Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, in the upcoming and highly-anticipated adaptation of the DC Comics title about the ring-slinging space cop from Warner Bros.
The source claims that after young Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Emile Hersh have both passed on the role, that Yelchin is up for consideration as the test pilot recruited into the interstellar peacekeeping force known as the Green Lantern Corps, whose members, chosen for being “utterly honest and without fear”, wield powerful rings that have a wide range of green energy-based powers, limited only by their imaginations and willpower.
The title first premiered in 1940, and several characters in the DC universe have had the name since then, with Hal Jordan, a risk-taking jet test pilot, first appearing in 1959 and establishing the Green Lantern as a member of the Green Lantern Corps, solidifying the history of the character. Several others have taken up the name as well since then, most notably John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner.
So far no official announcements in terms of casting for “Green Lantern” have been made yet. The film, directed by Martin Campbell, has a release date set for December 17th, 2010 and is being written by Greg Berlanti, who was initially attached to direct.
Besides “Terminator: Salvation”, Yelchin is also slated to appear in the upcoming “Star Trek” film as Pavel Chekov, originally portrayed by Walter Koenig, which hits theaters May 8th 2009.
