Dark Castle Entertainment has released an official synopsis, as well as two official photos, from the upcoming Antarctic murder mystery/thriller “Whiteout”, adapted from acclaimed writer Greg Rucka’s 1998 comic book of the same name for Oni Press about a US Marshall investigating a murder at the South Pole.
“Carrie Stetko, the lone U.S. Marshal assigned to Antarctica, is investigating the continent’s first murder, which draws her into a shocking mystery. Now, with only three days until winter, Carrie must solve the crime before Antarctica is plunged into darkness and she is stranded with the killer.”

Initially optioned for film in 1999, the big-screen adaptation of Greg Rucka’s comic book, “Whiteout” is rated R and hits theaters September 11th, 2009. Directed by Dominic Sena, it stars Kate Beckinsale as US Marshall Carrie Stetko and Gabriel Macht as UN operative Robert Pryce. The comic was followed by a sequel, “Whiteout: Melt” in 2000, also about the adventures of Stetko dealing with rogue Russian mercenaries at the South Pole, and a third volume, tentatively titled “Whiteout: Night” and initially called “Whiteout: Thaw” is expected to start summer of 2009.
