A slew of rumors regarding casting for the upcoming “Thor” movie for Marvel, which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh, have hit the internet, according to Nikki Finke at Deadline Hollywood.
Rumors point towards the studio pushing to cast Josh Hartnett in one of several roles, including nemesis and Asguardian trickster god Loki. Several other names that have popped up are actress Natalie Portman, Charlie Hunnam (“Sons Of Anarchy”), and Alexandar Skarsgard (“Generation Kill”, “True Blood”).
Marvel’s “Thor” was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby, and first appeared in Marvel’s “Journey into Mystery” #83 in 1962. The Asguardian god of Thunder and son of that All-Father Odin, Thor is sent to Earth to protect the planet and learn humility, transformed into crippled human, Dr. Donald Blake. When Blake strikes his walking stick against the ground, he once again becomes the mighty Thor and fought various enemies and monsters, including his conniving half-brother who plotted to take Thor’s place as Odin’s favorite, the trickster god Loki. The character is also a founding member of the Avengers, Marvel’s flagship superhero team, alongside Iron Man and Captain America.
