MTV reports that Johnny Depp’s production company, Infinitum-Nihil, is closer to the production of a film adaptation of ’60s TV show “Dark Shadows”.

Sam Sarkar, Infinitum’s director of development, has confirmed that Depp is set to star, but could not say whether Depp’s friend and director Tim Burton is set to direct: ‘I can neither confirm nor deny that. But I know it’s out there in the ether.”

Sarkar continued, saying, “All I can say is that one [a film version of the show] is very active. The studio will be making some announcements regarding it pretty soon. Very soon, probably.”

“Dark Shadows” premiered on ABC in 1966 and was the first daytime soap opera to feature themes of the paranormal: gothic romance, ghost stories, vampires, zombies and time-travel. The series survived a whopping 1,225 episodes.

The show will be hard to condense to a 2-hour movie, but Sarkar says that if the “Dark Shadows” film turns out to be a success, there’s a good chance it will spawn a franchise: “Obviously, it’s a movie that can continue because there were so many things going on in ‘Dark Shadows.'”

Depp’s upcoming films include Michael Mann’s Public Enemies, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Alice in Wonderland and animated film Rango.
