The Hollywood Reporter has a story up that the Sci-Fi Channel, soon to be known as SyFy, is tackling on creating a new miniseries adaptation of the comic-book hero “The Phantom”. So far no casting or any other information has been released so far.

“The Phantom” is a comic strip created by Lee Falk and debuted in 1936. Adapted into various media, including a live-action movie in 1996 starring Billy Zane, it stars a costumed crimefighter named Kit Walker, operating from the African jungle. He is latest in a line of defenders of the innocent, descended from the survivor of a vicious pirate attack, and known for his ghost-like legend and two rings. Though he has no superpowers, he uses his twin pistols, his wits, and peak human condition to fight crime, piracy, and villainy of various sorts. Falk died in 199 but the strip is still running as of 2009.

While the Phantom is not the first historical costumed crime fighter of fiction and comic strips, he is the first to wear the skintight costume that has become a trademark of the comic book superhero genre, as well as the first to wear a mask with no visible pupils, another now-standard mark of the superhero.
