Summit Entertainment has announced the casting of five actors joining the cast of The Twilight Saga: New Moon Today.
Actors Chaske Spencer, Bronson Pelletier, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Tyson Houseman will join Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in the series, for the upcoming second film.
With all six actors secured, the series now has its official Wolf Pack, who take the side of the humans in their fight against the evil breed of vampires in Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.
The five new cast members will make their feature film debut with New Moon, aside from Meraz who played a Core Warrior in 2005’s The New World. All of these actors are of American Indian descent, with Sioux, Purepecha and Hualapai among the tribes represented.
Rene Haynes, the casting director for New Moon, is well-known for her casting selections for Native American-themed projects, such as Terrence Malick’s The New World and Kevin Costner’s Dances With Wolves.
Twilight, the first installation of the series, debuted in theaters in November 2008 with tremendous box-office success. The film follows Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) who is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob Black. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested.
New Moon is currently filming in Vancouver and Italy and is expencted to hit theaters on November 20th this year.
The Twilight Saga’s third film, Eclipse, is expected to start shooting shortly after production ends on New Moon and will hit theaters on June 30th, 2010.
