Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, the writers behind the upcoming 2009 “Star Trek” reboot, recently talked to SCI FI Wire about their upcoming “Cowboys & Aliens” movie. Orci and Kurtzman are acting as producers for the project, which is attached to Dreamworks, as well as writers. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg are also producing the film.
“We’re hoping to deliver that soon, but it’s feeling really good, and it’s really exciting because it’s just fun to write a genre [mashup].”
“Cowboys & Aliens” is a 2006 graphic novel series from Platinum Studios, created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. It is about alien conquerors landing in Arizona in the mid-1800s. The aliens plan to quash and enslave humanity, but the cowboys and native Apache tribe have other plans for the would-be invaders.
Robert Downey Jr. is in talks to star in an upcoming DreamWorks screen adaptation of “Cowboys & Aliens”, which has a tentative release date of 2010.
