Alexander Skarsgard, who plays Eric Northman in the hit HBO series “True Blood”, recently addressed the rumors surrounding him in the helmet and with the hammer as Thor for Marvel’s upcoming film adaptation of their Norse god character.
When doing press for Season 2 of “True Blood”, Skarsgård responded to questions about him as Thor;
“No, I don’t think so. I haven’t gotten the call”.
Skarsgård was one of several names floating around in casting rumors for the role of the blonde God of Thunder. Marvel’s “Thor” premiered in 1962 and was created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, and Jack Kirby. The true Asguardian thunder god, Thor is banished to Earth by his father Odin to learn humility, and takes the human guise of Dr Donald Blake, a crippled doctor. When Blake strikes his walking stick against the ground, he transforms back into the Thunder God, and fought to defend the Earth from various threats, from supervillains to mythological attacks to the machinations of his half-brother, the jealous trickster god Loki.
The Thor film has a scheduled release date of May 20th, 2011 and will be directed by Kenneth Branagh, based on Mark Prtosevich’s (“The Cell”) script.
