Comic book writer Mark Millar (“Wanted”, “The Ultimates”) is speaking out about the decision to have screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos attached to Universal’s “Wanted 2”, which will be based on a story by Chris Morgan.
Millar specifically mentioned on his website’s message board the Spiliotopoulos’s credit as co-writer of “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie” and the straight-to-DVD spin-off in the Winnie The Pooh franchise. He said;
“Never listen to any commentators as they never know anything about who’s coming back, etc. It’s just speculation and 99% of the time these guys don’t have access to the people who know. ‘Wanted 2’ is being made in a very tight circle at the moment […] As a producer on the thing, I’m excited. I know who’s in it and after doing 342 million at the box office we have [serious] money to spend on everything from cast to crew to script.”
About Spiliotopoulos’s writing background and why he was brought onto the project, Millar says “This guy is supposed to be really good. He did a GREAT action script recently (on an unproduced movie) and that’s what got him this gig.”
Timur Bekmambetov is directing “Wanted 2”, and James McAvoy is expected to return for the lead role of super-assassin Wesley Gibson. Created by Millar and artist JG Jones in 2003 for Top Cow Comics, “Wanted” was about a young man recruited into what is revealed to be the cabal of supervillains who secretly rule the world, taking his father’s place as The Killer, with superhuman aim and gunplay. The 2008 film adaptation, starring McAvoy, Angelina Jolie, and Morgan Freeman, replaced the villain organization with a brotherhood of assassins for hire.
