USA Today has the first exclusive official picture from the set of the now-filming “Iron Man II,” the sequel to 2008’s summer smash “Iron Man”. Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, and Samuel L. Jackson, the sequel is continuing in the adaptation of the Marvel Comics’ “Iron Man” title, about the genius industrialist playboy Tony Stark who, after a deadly injury, builds a life-saving suit of armor and becomes the red-and-gold hi-tech hero Iron Man.
You can check out the picture of Downey as Stark/Iron Man, as well as what appear to be multiple Iron Man armors in the background, below.
The film, which opens May 7th, 2010, takes place roughly six months after the end of the first “Iron Man” film, Stark has revealed his identity as Iron Man and one of the aspects of the film is dealing with the results of that. “How many superheroes are open about their true identities?” Favreau told USA Today. “We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences — in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore.”
