Jay Chou, a Taiwanese actor and musician, has been confirmed by Columbia to have taken on the role of Kato in the upcoming “The Green Hornet” alongside Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz and Nicolas Cage.
The role of Kato was famously played by Bruce Lee in the original television series, the character being the hero’s chauffeur during the day, and his masked martial arts-wielding partner during the night as Britt Reid becomes the Green Hornet.
Chou said, in a press release put out by Columbia; “It’s an overwhelming experience to take on a role made famous by Bruce Lee, […] I won’t try to be Bruce Lee’s Kato […] I will try to bring my own interpretation to the part. Of course, it’s a dream role, and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
