The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the cable channel AMC has acquired the rights to the Image Comics series “The Walking Dead” for turning the zombie comic into a TV series.
Frank Darabont has been attached to write and direct as well as be an executive producer for “The Walking Dead”, which he has been developing before AMC picked it up. Darabont has directed “The Mist”, “The Majestic”, “The Green Mile”, “The Shawshank Redemption”, and also wrote the screenplay for “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.”
“The Walking Dead”, created by Robert Kirkman for Image Comics, premiered in 2003 and has gone onto critical acclaim as it follows a group of survivors in the wake of a zombie plague who fight not only the undead, but their own and each others’ personal demons as they struggle to survive.
