Variety.com is reporting that Universal Pictures is attaching Carl Erik Rinsch to direct “47 Ronin,” the historical samurai epic that will star Keanu Reeves.
Scott Stuber is producing through Stuber Pictures, with Pam Abdy producing. Rinsch has previously shot various commercials for RSA, Heineken, and Mercedes.
“47 Ronin” would be the latest retelling of the famous true story from Japen’s feudal history. The film tells the story of a band of samurai who concoct a plan to avenge the death of their master in 18th century Japan after he is shamed into committing suicide, and the Shogun forbids them from seeking retribution. The story was turned into a play and then six different film adaptations.
No other casting or release date news have been set so far for the project.
