Mark Pellington has been tapped to direct “The Orphanage” for New Line Cinema.
The film, written by Larry Fessenden and Guillermo Del Toro, is a remake of the 2007 Spanish-language “El Orfanato,” which was directed by Del Toro protege Juan Antonio Bayona.
A woman returns to the orphanage where she grew up as a child to reopen it as a home for disabled children. While there she discovers that her son’s new “imaginary friend” might not be so imaginary, as well as be connected to several ghosts from her own past.
No casting news or release date has been announced yet.
