Screenwriter Kerry Williamson has been tapped to write the film adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s medical mystery book series starring medical examiner Kay Scarpetta.
Fox 2000 picked up the rights to the books this past April, and have Angelina Jolie lined up to star.
Mark Gordon is producing the project alongside Jolie’s manager Geyer Kosinski.
The 17-book series, whose latest entry “The Scarpetta Factor” was released by Putnam this past October, is being eyed as a potential franchise for Jolie. Williamson’s screenplay will supposedly not be a direct adaptation of any of the books, but rather will be an original story starring the character and set in the world Cornwell has created in the novels.
