Hammer Films, the movie arm of Exclusive Media Group, has acquired the rights to create a big-screen adaptation of author Susan Hill’s suspense thriller novel “The Woman in Black.”
British director James Watkins (“Eden Lake”) is attached to direct a script being written by Jane Goldman (“Kick-Ass,” “Stardust”). Hammer Films will be co-producing the project alongside Talisman Films. Hammer’s Nigel Sinclair and Guy East are executive producers alongside Roy Lee and Doug Davison of. Vertigo Entertainment.
The story is about a young lawyer who is ordered to travel to a remote country village in order to deal with the estate of a client. While there he catches glimpses of a mysterious woman dressed entirely in black, which leads to him uncovering several tragic secrets.
Exclusive Film Distribution is handling worldwide distribution, with Newmarket Films distributing in the US. Hammer is also producing the English-language remake of the critically-acclaimed Swedish vampire film “Let The Right One In”, titled “Let Me In”.
