Orlando Bloom has signed on to star in the upcoming indie drama “The Good Doctor,” directed by Lance Daly and written by John Enbom.
Michael Pena, Troy Garity, Courtney Ford, Taraji P. Henson, Rob Morrow and J.K. Simmons are all in negotiations to join the cast as well.
“The Good Doctor” centers on a frustrated doctor desperately looking to impress his superiors and colleagues. When his young patient, who is admitted for a kidney infection, connects with him, he desperately begins to tamper with her treatment so that she remains ill and in his care.
The rest of the cast’s roles are not all clear, though Pena is described as an orderly who discovers the doctor’s relationship with the patient and blackmails him for prescription painkillers, and Garity as a successful doctor who would be a counterpoint to Bloom. Ford is slated to play another woman around the hospital who has eyes for Bloom’s doctor.
Production on “The Good Doctor” is set to start this week in Los Angeles.
