Johnny Depp will be directing a documentary on the life and times of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones.
Richards, who served as an inspiration for Depp’s Jack Sparrow character in “Pirates of the Caribbean” and also appeared as the character’s father in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End”. Depp last directed “The Brave” in 1997and will be appearing in Tim Burton’s upcoming “Alice in Wonderland.”
Richards, a founding member of the influential group The Rolling Stones, which he formed with childhood friend Mick Jagger, was born in 1943 in Dartford, Kent. The guitarist is considered a forefather of rock ‘n roll and is known for his blues-influenced rhythm playing.
No release date or distribution has been announced for the project, but Depp’s rep has said that production is beginning next week for the documentary.
